Northstowe Festival of Running 2022 routes revealed

We’re excited to finally bring the half marathon distance to the Northstowe Running Festival. Except for the start from a different location the route in principle is very similar to spring’s half marathon and although very flat, should not be underestimated.

This very flat multi-terrain Northstowe Half Marathon course will take you from the new developments of modern Northstowe Town, via peaceful paths around the Bug Hunter Waters lake and out past some of neighbouring Longstanton’s historic landmarks into the surrounding countryside with its open skies and expansive natural vistas before coming back to the finish line at Western Park and the runners’ village packed with free entertainment and a delicious street food market. You’ll be surprised to see so much diversity within the half marathon distance, and we promise you won’t be bored!

With permission from local land owners, some parts of the routes are on private land, making it a unique running experience. You’ll pass by some local landmarks with historical significance, including a rare 1941 cantilevered pillbox and the Church of St Michael, an early 13th century listed building notable for its thatched roof.

Changes, changes!
The first and very noticeable change from last year is the Northstowe 10K race which will be a single lap instead of two. We’ve also modified the Northstowe 5K course. Both are very scenic and offer a lot of greenery and contact with unique wildlife.

The Northstowe water park lakes have now had their names chosen and what’s more exciting are now a home to a wide variety of wildlife including some very rare birds.

Northstowe Family Mile will be unchanged from the previous year.

From the start runners and walkers will complete a full lap before finishing on the Western Park playing field.

For those who have never been to Northstowe or this part of the country before, we recommend checking our photo gallery below. This will not replace the experience of running here but should give you some idea of what to expect from the Northstowe Festival of Running 2022 routes.

Thanks to Homes England, L&Q Estates, Greenbelt Group, Welney Farms Property Limited and Cambridgeshire County Council for their support and permissions with this year’s routes – it’s always a challenge to make everything work together in a rapidly growing new town!

We can’t wait to see you all on the start line of one of the races!
