Running should be for everyone

We believe that taking part in our events should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances. We know that for some people, the cost of entering an event can be a barrier. That’s why we offer a limited number of Pay What You Can (PWYC) entries. Instead of paying the standard entry fee, participants can choose an amount they can realistically afford. Some people may contribute a few pounds; others may contribute more. The amount is entirely up to them.

The purpose of the scheme is simple: to make our events more accessible and ensure that cost alone doesn’t prevent someone from taking part.

We don’t ask people to explain their circumstances, provide proof of income, or justify their need for support. Instead, we rely on honesty, community spirit and trust.

Who is it for?

Pay What You Can entries are intended for people who would otherwise find it difficult to take part because of the cost of entry.

We know that financial circumstances can change unexpectedly and that affordability means different things to different people. We don’t ask people to justify their situation, and we don’t require any proof.

If the standard entry fee is a genuine barrier to participation, this scheme is here for you.

Who is it not for?

Pay What You Can entries are a limited community-funded resource.

They are not intended simply as a way to save money on race entries or to reduce the cost of an already active race calendar.

If you can afford the standard entry fee and regularly take part in races and events, we ask that you choose a standard entry and leave Pay What You Can places for those who need them.

How do I access a Pay What You Can entry?

Pay What You Can entries are available directly through the normal registration process while places remain available.

When entering, you’ll be asked to confirm that:

✅ The standard entry fee would be a genuine barrier to your participation.

✅ You understand that Pay What You Can places are intended for people facing financial barriers to taking part.

✅ You are requesting a Pay What You Can entry honestly and in good faith.

That’s it: no application, no proof, and no explanation required.

Built on community trust

This scheme is made possible by the generosity of our runners, volunteers, partners and supporters.

Some participants choose to make an additional donation when entering, while others contribute more than the standard entry fee. Together, this helps create opportunities for people who might otherwise miss out.

We trust our community to use the scheme fairly, so that these places remain available to those who need them most.
