Cornerstone Care in Confidence was founded in 2004 by a group of churches in the Huntingdon area that recognised the difficulties women facing an unplanned pregnancy face and set up a free confidential service to offer non-judgemental support. Twelve years ago, Helen Turley became the charity director and has grown the service to include the whole of Cambridgeshire and to include support for women who have post-abortion concerns and pathways for ongoing support
Our trained practitioners give time, space and non-directive information to support women during this difficult time. We aim to see clients within 48 hours of a referral or first contact. All our clients are treated with respect and dignity in a friendly and compassionate environment.
Our Mission
Our mission is to reach every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy in Cambridgeshire, so that we can offer her time, space and non-directive information, promising ongoing support, whatever she decides.
Our Services
Every client faces unique circumstances, and her needs may vary. We, therefore, seek to create an appropriate, bespoke network of support around her. Our services may include but are not limited to:
- Our baby boutique is where a mother can “shop for free” for anything she may need for her baby including equipment like prams, supplies such as nappies, baby clothes, cots and baths etc.
- Antenatal classes
- Baby bonding classes
- Specific referrals to other agencies, charities, community groups and churches
- Our Post Abortion Support Programme is a 10-12 week one-to-one time for clients to meet with one of our trained listeners to work through any negative emotions they are feeling about previous termination decisions.
The importance of our partnership with Northstowe Running Festival
UK statistics show that 1 in 3 women will have had at least one termination by the time they reach the age of forty-five. For many, this is a decision made in secret, shame, increased vulnerability and great sadness. If a woman finds herself in this situation, we want Cornerstone Care in Confidence to be highly visible as a trusted service she can access. We are very grateful to the Northstowe Running Festival for including us this year. We hope our presence will help raise the visibility of our services in the local community, plus raise much-needed funds. Thank you to the festival committee, all volunteers and runners.
